Ken Perlman (USA)
"Ken Perlman
is internationally recognized as the undisputed king of the melodic
clawhammer banjo style." -- Banjo Newsletter
This technically demanding approach transforms
clawhammer into a playing style suitable for the skillful
adaptations of Celtic and Canadian fiddle tunes that have become
Ken’s hallmark.
Ken is also a master fingerstyle guitarist, an
award-winning folklorist and an acclaimed teacher who has written
some of the most widely respected guitar and banjo instruction
books of modern times.
He has spent over 15 years studying the
fiddle-music and folklore of Prince Edward Island, and returned to
PEI in 2006 to conduct a follow-up recording and interview project
sponsored by the Canadian Museum of Civilization.
Ken’s recordings include Southern Summits (a collaboration with fiddler Alan Jabbour) and Northern Banjo.
