Matt Cranitch (Ireland)

Matt CranitchMatt Cranitch is renowned as a fiddle-player and teacher. He has performed extensively at home in and abroad, and has conducted many lectures, master-classes and workshops. Author of The Irish Fiddle Book, he has a particular interest in the music of Sliabh Luachra in the south-west of . For his study on the fiddle-playing tradition of this region, he received a PhD from the University of Limerick, where he also teaches traditional music performance.

He is a regular contributor to radio and television programs in , and is a traditional music consultant for TG4, the Irish-language television service. He plays with the group, Sliabh Notes, who have performed at many of the major festivals, and whose recordings have received much critical acclaim.
