Ray and Greg Walsh (Canada - NL)

Born in Bay de Verde, Conception Bay, Ray Walsh was introduced to traditional music at a very young age. Influenced by his father and grandfather, both accomplished fiddlers, Ray played for traditional dances in the Bay de Verde area and during the 1960's and 70's he appeared on CBC's nationally syndicated show All Around The Circle and other television shows that featured traditional music and songs of Newfoundland and Labrador. After retiring from a distinguished 33-year career as a high school teacher and administrator, Ray’s talents remain in demand—primarily his piano accordion and button accordion playing, and his knowledge of traditional music and dance. Ray performs throughout the province as a solo artist and with the RAY WALSH FAMILY BAND.
Raised in Bay de Verde, Conception Bay and influenced by his father Ray and the singing and playing of his grandparents, Greg Walsh became interested in traditional music as a teenager and immediately took to a variety of traditional instruments. Now proficient on guitar, mandolin, tenor banjo, fiddle, piano accordion and a fine singer of traditional songs, Greg has recorded with and is a member of several groups including the RAY WALSH FAMILY BAND and the MASTERLESS MEN and regularly performs at sessions and pubs in the St. John’s area. He and his father Ray Walsh are currently completing their first instrumental recording project together, composed primarily of traditional tunes from the Bay de Verde area.
