Composer Andrew Staniland helps school children to compose a new work for the Gryphon Trio
Dr. Andrew Staniland, who teaches composition at Memorial University's School of Music is in the news this morning for his work with the Gryphon Trio's "Listen Up!" project. Dr. Staniland worked with students at Naismith Memorial Public School in Almonte, Ontario to create a brand new work for performance by the Gryphon Trio. Students wrote poetry and learned composition techniques from Dr. Staniland who helped them to shape the work for string trio and choir. You can listen to CBC producer Jill LaForty's documentary at:
The work will be premiered on Monday, April 4 at Almonte Old Town Hall. The performance will include "The Seasons of Almonte" and a new work by Dr. Staniland, commissioned by the Gryphon Trio.
