String Players Bring Colourful World of Vivaldi to School Children
On Friday, February 10th current and former string students of Memorial University’s School of Music -- Maggie Burton and Dominic Greene, violins; Heather Wright, viola; and Ben Alstad, cello -- headed out to Brigus and Bay Roberts with violin professor Nancy Dahn for a morning of school outreach concerts at elementary schools in the region. They presented a program built around the Four Seasons which explores the picturesque, dramatic and colourful world of Vivaldi, Bach and some local fiddle music.

Linda Mercer, one of the music teachers wrote: “The kids and the staff loved the performance. Here are some comments I received:
"The Kindergartens were fascinated with the instruments" - Kdgn. teachers
"I heard the birds in the music and I heard the thunder, too" - Grade 3 student.
"I loved the tone of the cello" - Teacher
Thank you for bringing Vivaldi to us in a fresh new way! We would welcome you again, anytime.”
The group plans to continue to visit more local schools and deliver the program online across Newfoundland and Labrador via video conferencing.
