Habitat For Humanity Volunteer Registration Page

Habitat for Humanity is an independent, non-profit organization that is dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty by building affordable homes in partnership with families in need, volunteers and community agencies. This fall, as a part of I Love MUNdays, Memorial will be partnering with Petro-Canada to build a house for a deserving family, and we need your help!

Skill Sets

Building a home is a huge job, but there’s a volunteer opportunity for everyone. Please indicate below your skill set/where you would like to help on the build. Please check all that apply.

Certified Trades People

Each build requires a number of certified trade/journey people who oversee certain aspects of the build. These individuals mentor and provide guidance to the general labourer volunteers. For this build, we are looking for:

Carpenters

Plumbers

Electricians

At least one of each trades person per day is required for each day of the build—more would be ideal.

General Labourers (12-14 per build day)

The “worker bees” of the build. General labourers fulfill a variety of roles—you don’t need previous experience and you don’t have to be a skilled carpenter. Enthusiasm and willingness to learn are all that’s required. The general labourers work under the guidance of certified trades people and are given task-specific instructions. Or, they can assist in more general work, such as site cleanup, sod placement, unpacking and organizing supplies, runners, etc. Whether you’re an accomplished handyperson or a complete novice, there is a task for every level of experience.

Do you have experience in any of the following?:

  • Painting
  • Plastering
  • Gyprocing
  • Framing
  • Siding

Registration (2 per build day)

Want to help but can’t get too physical?

There are roles for everyone who wants to help out, even if you can't help directly with the building. The site will have a registration desk where volunteers have to check in each day. Maximum of two volunteers per day required for this role.

Safety/First Aid (2 per build day)

The more safety volunteers on the site each day the better, however there is a requirement for dedicated safety personnel who have their basic first aid training and can conduct safety sessions at the beginning of each day.

Availability during build:

All days require a full, 8 hour commitment from volunteers. For this build, work days for volunteers will begin at 7:15 am. Please select all days you are available during the build. Volunteers must also provide their own CSA rated Safety Boots. If you have any trouble getting Safety Footwear, please contact melissa.james@mun.ca
