Memorial University musicologist Tom Gordon will offer a brief introduction to the Moravian Inuit community of Hebron and its musical legacy. The highlight of the presentation will be six of the anthems from Holy Week in Hebron in 1859 performed by a choir and small orchestra from the School of Music under the direction of Amy Henderson. The works performed include Kuvianak Bethania iglunga, Nâlegavut ivsornaitoksôvok, PiniarneK ussornartoK!, NâlegaK inôgutaujoK, Merngoêrsertillutit ikkingnît and Nertorisiuk SalaKartoK.

Dr. Downes' research explores issues pertaining to cultural diversity, communication technologies, and the regulation of the new media economy. His presentation is titled, "Hard Core Troubadours: Social Networking, House Concerts & the 21st Century Folk Scene in Canada."

Lan Tung (erhu), Gelina Jiang (zheng), and Jonathan Bernard (marimba) combine their talents to form a group that embraces a variety of musical styles in their repertoire, including the traditional and contemporary music of China, jazz, world music, and creative improvisation. Join us for their presentation "An overview of Chinese regional and historical styles, and the contemporary development of Chinese music and musicians in Canada."

Dr. Wong's research interests include identity politics, performance studies, cultural studies, popular culture, critical pedagogy, and music and difference. She specializes in the musics of Asian America and Thailand, and will present “An Ethnomusicology of Hope.”
