Web accessibility

Approximately 10 per cent of the population lives with a disability of some kind and many people with disabilities have trouble using the Web.

Memorial's Web Content Services Team works to ensure that all users, regardless of their technical set-up or disabilities, can access the information provided on www.mun.ca.

To achieve that goal, our web developers followed the standards established by the World Wide Web Consortium - WC3.

The team consults regularly with a university-wide committee at Memorial to explore ways to enhance the accessibility of the institutional web site. The Web Accessibility Committee includes representatives from:

  • Computing and Communications
  • Distance Education and Learning Technologies
  • Glenn Roy Blundon Centre for Students With Disabilities
  • Marketing and Communications
  • Library
  • Registrar's Office
  • Independent Living Resource Centre

The committee's goal is to collect information on making the web accessible, explore options for improving accessibility, and raise awareness within the university community about accessibility issues.
