In addition to proficiency testing for individuals classes, the Division also offers a letter of proficiency in conversational French.

To earn the letter of proficiency, you must complete all five levels of the Division's Conversational French classes, and pass a competency assessment for each of those levels. Each assessment is an oral exam of approximately 15 minutes.

Fee
There is a $15 registration fee for each exam. This fee is non-refundable and is not transferable.

To Register
You must register for exams by contacting the Division at 737-7979. The registration deadline for an exam is one week prior to the scheduled exam date.

Exemptions to Letter of Proficiency Requirements
Pending the successful completion of equivalence exams, two language courses taken at another institution may be substituted for letter of proficiency requirements. equivalence assessment is based on the content of the Division's language classes. Each assessment exam costs $50. Application to write an exemption assessment must be made, in writing, to the Division. You will be notified of the time, date and location of your exemption assessment.

To Receive Your Letter of Proficiency
Once you have completed the requirements for the letter of proficiency, you must submit a request—in writing—by fax, e-mail or post, to:
