We ask you to sign your child in and out at drop-off and pick-up times, respectively. We assume that whoever signs in a child at drop-off will also collect them in the afternoon. If this is not the case, please inform a Kids@MUN staff member at the sign-in desk of the alternate arrangement.

What will my child do while at summer camp?
Kids@MUN summer camps offer a broad range of weekly themes in art, business, science, engineering, recreation, and much more! Camps include physical activity, creative projects, hands-on learning, and outdoor activities. Not only are our camps fun and activity-oriented, they also teach campers valuable life skills, such as the importance of leadership, communication, team-building, and a positive attitude.

Does my child have to be bilingual to attend French camps?
No. In partnership with Canadian Parents for French, these theme camps allow children in French immersion to improve their French skills through a variety of fun-filled activities. French camps mirror the English camp themes and activities; the only difference is that instructors speak French and will encourage children to speak the language as best they can in a fun and supportive environment. These camps are a great way for kids to recall, reinforce and improve their French skills over the summer months!

What happens after camp registration?
Prior to the start of camps, a camper/parent information package will be mailed to you. This will include detailed information on camp policies and procedures, as well as consent forms for parents to complete and return to the Division prior to the start of camps, or to a camp counselor on the first day of camp.

What if my child is sick?
If your child is sick and unable to attend summer camp, we ask that you notify the Division of Lifelong Learning’s main office at 864-7979 so that counselors will know not to expect your child.

Will my child be required to bring a snack and packed lunch?
Yes. All campers should bring snacks for a morning and/or afternoon break, including drinks suitable for an active day. Full-day campers should also bring a healthy, balanced lunch. There are no refrigeration facilities at camp, so ice packs are recommended. Please note that Kids@MUN summer camps are a peanut-free environment.

What type of clothing does my child need to bring?
Comfortable clothing and footwear is ideal (t-shirt, shorts, sneakers, etc). Activities will also take place outdoors, so please ensure that you pack appropriate outdoor clothing such as a sun hat, and warmer clothing, such as a sweater, track pants, and rain gear in case of inclement weather.

What about sunscreen?
Please ensure that children have had their first application of sunscreen in the morning, and then send bottles of sunscreen with them. All bottles should be labeled with your child’s name. Staff will remind and assist them in reapplying sunscreen throughout the day.

What should my child NOT bring to camp?
Kids@MUN recommends that campers do not bring valuables such as electronic devices, Mp3 players, iPods, iPhones, cell phones, personal gaming devices/games (PSP, DS, DSi), etc. If it is essential for your child to have a cell phone, we require that the phone is handed to the camp counselor at the start of the camp day. The Division of Lifelong Learning and camp staff are not responsible for lost or stolen items.

What if my child loses something?
We cannot guarantee the return of lost property, but we ask that all clothing and bags are clearly labeled with your child’s name to help us return these items to you.

How many staff will supervise the children?
Our Kids@MUN summer camp ratio is 1:10 (instructor-to-participant) for English and French theme camps, as well as Musical Theatre camp with Spirit of Newfoundland. Robotics levels 1 & 2 and Junior Engineers I & II have a 2:12 (instructor-to-participant) ratio, except for lunch hour when the ratio is 1:12.

Are camp staff experienced?
We know that the key to running a successful camp is to employ great staff! We select our staff from a variety of backgrounds to ensure a balance of skills, experience, and qualifications for our camp environment. Staff will be qualified in, or studying towards, post-secondary degrees which may include education, childcare, or leisure. All Kids@MUN summer staff are fully trained through the Division of Lifelong Learning’s week-long orientation and training program, which covers topics including child safety, program development, diversity awareness, and inclusion, among others. All staff are certified in First Aid/CPR and they also possess a current Certificate of Conduct. The Kids@MUN Program Coordinator, who oversees summer camp programming, will be your main point of contact.

How and where do I sign up?
Registration is available through our website www.mun.ca/lifelonglearning or by calling the Division at 864-7979. Register early as seats are limited!
