What the certificate offers

The certificate will present you with an effective, systematic approach to instructional design and project management for online courses. You will use that approach in combination with your experience and knowledge about teaching and learning, to construct a complete, outcomes-oriented online course. The learning activities used in the process will be relevant and applicable to your real-life work environment. You will also learn about trends and issues in the field and be given an opportunity to facilitate a topic in the course.

Certificate requirements

Level I: Introduction to Instructional Design for Online Courses
No prerequisite required.
Available in winter semester 2007.
Level II: Designing and Developing an e-Learning Course
Prerequisite: Introduction to Instructional Design for Online Courses
Level III: E-Learning Trends & Issues
Prerequisite: Designing and Developing an e-Learning Course

Course facilitators

Corinne Breen holds a B.Sc. and a B.Ed., as well as a masters of education (curriculum and instruction). She is an experienced instructional designer involved in the design, development and delivery of multimedia learning packages and distance education courses. She also provides a range of professional development for post-secondary instructors. Corinne has practical experience regarding innovative teaching strategies both for large groups and tutoring individual students. This is supplemented by the knowledge gained during her M.Ed. program involving the implementation of educational technologies in a post secondary environment.

Christine Molloy holds a BA (MUN) and MDE (Athabasca University - Master of Distance Education). Her work includes instructional design and project management for the development of courseware for online education and training. She conducts professional development for instructors in the use of learning technology software and online facilitation. In addition, Christine provides design support in WebCT and co-ordinates delivery logistics.

Course fees

Each course costs $695. You are advised to budget approximately $70 per course for textbooks. Recommended textbooks are available from the Memorial University bookstore.
