1. Our program builds on your post-secondary experience which makes you more marketable in a competitive job market.
We know that as a result of your post-secondary experience, you’ve developed a variety of assets valued by prospective employers:
- problem solving skills,
- time management skills,
- critical thinking skills,
- effective communication skills, and
- an ability to work well in team settings.
Memorial’s Diploma in Information and Communications Technology program builds on those assets by providing you with a complementary set of technical competencies. Combined post-secondary / I.T. competencies can be applied in a wide range of settings, from finance to manufacturing, from retail to health care, across hundreds of small-to-medium-sized enterprises.
2. Our program is the only university-based ICT program in
the province. With that comes the assurance of a Senate-approved,
accredited diploma, and the associated reputation for excellence
Memorial enjoys both here and abroad.
Twenty-five years from now when you’re reflecting on your diploma, the institution that issued it will still be proudly serving the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
3. The work term component of our program gives you
valuable experience . . . experience that makes you attractive to
employers.
Many employers feel that experience gained on work term assignments is very valuable because it allows you to be productive more quickly. The work term also gives you the opportunity to:
- test the waters in a particular content area, e.g., network administration,
- learn about the expectations and needs of an employer, and
- gain a realistic understanding of the communications and interpersonal skills you require to succeed in a workplace setting.
4. Our program features Cisco and Microsoft certified
curriculum. So when it comes time to look for a job, employers know
exactly what they’re getting in terms of your theoretical and
practical knowledge.
Other programs may teach you Cisco networking content for example, but what they’re teaching you may not be Cisco certified curriculum. Official curricula also maximizes your preparedness for when you decide to write your industry certifications.
5. Our instructor(s) hold all the current I.T.
certifications required for their position. This ensures that
you are always being exposed to the latest industry practices and
theories.
Certification is becoming a bigger factor in hiring; this is especially true in technology-related jobs. Companies want new-hires to be certified.
6. Our program offers you a variety of post-graduate
support services.
Assistance will be available to you in developing your job search skills, for example: how to write a résumé, how and where to look for employment opportunities and how to develop job interview techniques: all competencies that are vitally important in helping you to put your educational experience to work.
7. Our program is flexible.
You can earn your diploma on a full-or part-time basis.
We also offer Certificates in databases, networking, programming and Web development. And students are now able to register in individual INFO courses. Admission to Memorial University required. A great way to acquire needs-specific ICT skills.
