Fall 2010 Global Cinema Series

A look at the best of the international cinema circuit, featuring an introduction and facilitated discussion by selected members of the Faculty of Arts. Presented by the Faculty of Arts and the Division of Lifelong Learning.

All films take place at 7 p.m. in the Inco Innovation Centre theatre (IIC2001). Tickets are available at the door and are $8 per film. Tickets may also be reserved online or by calling 864-7979.

An Indian family and their emigre son, keep in touch through the exchange of home movies. As time passes and the planned return to India becomes an increasingly remote possibility, the joy and curiosity of the early exchanges give way to the darker reality of alienation, racism and a family falling apart.

The writing of a novel based on an past case stirs old ghosts for retired Argentinian federal justice agent, Benjamín Espósito. In looking for resolution, Benjamin is reminded that passion is one thing that cannot be changed in behaviour; a premise posited by Benjamin’s assistant during the original investigation.

An unassuming broadcast day turns bizzare for fading "shock jock" announcer, Grant Mazzy, and the staff of CLSY Radio in Pontypool Ont., when they discover that insane behaviour striking the town is the result of a deadly virus being spread through the English language itself. Do they stay on the air in the hopes of being rescued or, are they in fact providing the virus with its ultimate leap over the airwaves and into the world?
