Fellowhips
Purpose and general guidelines
A limited number of fellowships and awards will be offered to eligible graduate students in Master's or Doctoral programs at Memorial University.
Graduate students may apply at the beginning of a program or partway through. Each graduate award will be funded on the basis of a partnership between the Centre and Memorial University's School of Graduate Studies.
Applicants should be under the supervision of a researcher at Memorial University with an on-going program of funded research (normally through the Killick Centre). Supervisors signing more than one application to this competition in any given year must indicate to the committee the order in which they would rank the applicants they are supporting.
Killick Centre Graduate Fellowships are not intended to replace the fellowship programs offered by SSHRC or other funding bodies.
Candidates will be encouraged to investigate all possible sources of support, and to provide documentation concerning applications to other agencies along with their application.
Candidates are not eligible for a full Killick Centre Graduate Fellowship if they hold another major funding agency award. However, students who are successful in obtaining funding from an external granting agency will be eligible for a top-up award of up to $3,000 per year from the Killick Centre. Eligible students in this category are encouraged to contact the Killick Centre directly.
Holders of Killick Centre Graduate Fellowships are expected to be part of the research alliance and involved in Killick Centre activities. They may be remunerated for a limited amount (not more than 24 hours per week) of instructing, demonstrating or other paid employment upon approval by their supervisor and the head of their academic unit.
Graduate Fellowships are initially awarded for a 12-month period. They will be renewed upon submission of a formal report from the supervisor and the head of the academic unit indicating that satisfactory progress is being made toward completion of the degree. Preference will be given to applications relevant to the current priority research themes.
For details on eligibility and selection criteria consult the current Killick Centre Fellowships and Awards Guide.
