International Development Week
What is International Development Week?
International Development Week (IDW) is an opportunity to explore how Canada and Canadians are making a difference around the world! For 23 years, the Canadian International Development Agency has celebrated international development and you are invited to be part of the celebration!
IDW celebrations and activities will take place at the St. John's and Grenfell Campus from February 3-9, 2013. Events will focus on international development themes, with a particular emphasis on Global Health.

Breakfast Brainstorm! Developing your own roadmap to a successful career in International Education

Sonja Knutson (Acting Director of the International Centre and Manager of the International Student Advising Office) will deliver this insightful session on building a successful career in international education. With over 20 years of experience, Sonja will provide an overview to the competencies necessary to advance in the international education profession. The session will also highlight information and provide tips on where and how to access the professional training that will hone your skills and develop your expertise. From Landmine Removal, to Good Governance -- A Look at Canadian International Development

Alan Leber, a Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) employee was the primary pen for the strategy for Landmine Removal in Developing Countries and now focuses on advancing democracy/good governance and promoting sustainable economic growth through the development of value chains. Mr. Leber is currently the team leader for the Deployment for Democratic Development mechanism, which is a tool to supply qualified Canadian technical expertise in response to requests from local partners
Aboriginal Patient Navigator Program with Katie Dicker & Solomon Semigak

An initiative of the St. John's Native Friendship Centre and Eastern Health, the Aboriginal Patient Navigator (APN) Program offers support and assistance to Aboriginal patients/clients who are referred to St. John’s, NL for medical treatment.The APN Program provides a link between Aboriginal communities and Eastern Health care providers.
Medicines Sans Frontiers with Marlene Power

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural or man-made disasters. After winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999, MSF began a global campaign to promote accessibility to essential medicines and to alert the world to the desperate need to improve the tools and resources available to vulnerable populations. Marlene will speak about her own experiences working with MSF, and will highlight some of the main issues that the Access Campaign attempts to address.

Join us for our last event of IDW2013, a screening of Paul Emile d'Entremont's Last Chance. This National Film Board (NFB) film views the Canadian Immigration refugee process through the eyes of four LGBT refugee status claimants. Food and drinks will be provided.
