Details of the Law and Society Minor
- The Law and Society Minor consists of a minimum of 24 credit
hours, comprising Law and Society [LWSO] 2000 and 4000, and 18
credit hours drawn from the optional courses listed in the
Calendar, with no more than six hours coming from any one of the
departments. At present those departments are: Anthropology,
History, Linguistics, Philosophy, Political Science, and
Sociology.
- Entry into the minor program is competitive and occurs only
after the candidate has completed 30 university credit hours and
has passed LWSO 2000. Passing LWSO 2000 does not guarantee
acceptance into the minor programme.
- Application is by means of the Declaration of Major/Minor form
available from the Office of the Registrar and a current transcript of
marks.
- Early application is advised in order to assure orderly access
to the optional courses in the minor, and to facilitate the
scheduling of LWSO 4000 which is framed as the exit-level seminar
of the program.
- LWSO 4000 is normally taken towards the end of the program,
after at least 18 of the 24 required credit hours have been
completed. It is a seminar course in which archival research or the
exploration of primary sources, which can include interviews, is a
major component.
