Conche - Traditional Knitting

Mary Simmonds is an elder of Conche who is locally celebrated for her knitting skills. She actively makes socks, gloves and mittens using traditional double-knit patterns such as snowflake, the flying goose, and the diamond patterns. She first learned to knit from her mother, as a child, and has continued the practice throughout her life, as a pastime. Her socks and gloves are given as gifts, or sold to members of the community and to people passing through.
