My experience with the School of Human Kinetics and Recreation

My HKR experience was awesome. Knowledgeable professors and staff made for a wonderful learning environment, and a great opportunity for some real world experiences through my co-operative education placements.

My work terms

My co-op placements were with East Coast Physiotherapy, St. John's Maple Leafs Hockey Club, and The Works. These placements allowed me to get some practical hands on experience in the fields of rehabilitation, fitness and athletics. They helped me along the path to where I am today by providing me with experiences and insights in the realm of HKR. My B.Kin. (Co-op) degree led me to my bachelor of applied health sciences in athletic therapy from Sheridan College in Oakville and Brampton in 2009.

The co-op office provided me with the gateway to these wonderful work terms. Julie, Gail and Diane were instrumental in my success in these three co-op placements and were always there to offer help and advice when needed.

My career

Since graduation I have completed my bachelor of applied health sciences in athletic therapy; (BAHSc(AT)) from Sheridan College in Oakville and Brampton, ON and am a certified athletic therapist (CAT(C)) with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association. I spent 2009-10 working with the Tri City Americans of the Western Hockey League (WHL) as their athletic therapist. Since July of 2010 I have been employed as the head athletic therapist of the WHL's Edmonton Oil Kings (
