Enter the Teaching and Learning Facebook photo contest

By Heidi Wicks

To launch Memorial's Teaching and Learning Community's (TLC) Facebook page, the group is holding a photo contest with iPad minis as the gold at the end of the rainbow.

All members of the TLC, including students, educators, staff and alumni at all of Memorial's campuses, are asked to submit their photos of their unique places and practices for studying for final exams.

Do you need a certain snack to fuel your fire? Do you need to wear a certain sweater? Are you a highlighter or coloured pens fiend? Do you like curling up in a cubby-hole desk in the coziest corner of the QEII?

We want to see your quirkiest study rituals and locations!

Whether you use a camera with multiple lenses, Instagram, your favourite photo-enhancing app or just a plain point-and-shoot camera, entrants are encouraged to be as creative as they desire.

The contest is meant to celebrate the university's diverse TLC, encourage healthy mental breaks and refresh the batteries in the lead-up to final exams, as well as promote enthusiasm for teaching and learning.

Once the contest closes, the two photos that receive the most "likes" will win the grand prizes. Entrants are to tag themselves in the photo, and are encouraged to share their submissions on their own pages, and prompt their friends to join the community by "liking" their photo on the page.

The lucky winners will each receive an iPad mini that could be a great Christmas gift for either a loved one or just for themselves!

The contest began Nov. 13, and will run until Nov. 30. The winner will be announced by Dec. 7.

Since the beginning of the Teaching and Learning Framework process, many members of Memorial's Teaching and Learning Community have been eager to "Join the Conversation", and continue that conversation on-campus and online. Facebook is a great platform for discussion. The TLC website also provides visitors with an opportunity to submit comments and share experiences about teaching and learning.

All members of Memorial's TLC are encouraged to check out the website at, the YouTube channel at and join the Facebook page
