Papers and Presentations
Dr. Jane Green, a professor in the Discipline of Genetics, Faculty of Medicine, attended the 13th International Workshop on Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia in Liege, Belgium, Sept. 5-8. She gave an oral presentation titled Changing Manifestations of MEN-1 (Burin): Increase in Occurrence of Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumours (pNETs).
Dr. Roger Chafe, director of pediatric research in the Faculty of Medicine, presented a paper titled Social Media, Media and Coverage at the Medicine 2.0 '12 conference at the Harvard Medical School on Sept. 15.
Helen Gillespie, research laboratory co-ordinator with Memorial's CREAIT Network, presented a paper titled An Introduction to Crude Oil Database at the Seventh International Symposium on Oil and Gas Resources in Western Newfoundland, Sept. 12-14.
Dr. Laurie Twells, associate professor in the School of Pharmacy and Faculty of Medicine, presented at the Obesity Society's Annual Scientific Meeting in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Twells was involved with nine posters, all of which are associated with a cohort study that is recruiting patients pre-bariatric/weight loss surgery and following them post-surgery for a number of years. The posters presented the establishment of the Translational Research Program in Bariatric Care, the early results of patients' post-surgery, patient weight loss expectations and patient experiences waiting for surgery. This is part of a larger program of research being developed at Memorial by Dr. Twells and Dr. Debbie Gregory (medicine) along with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, health care professionals and decision-makers.
