Dr. Alana Hinchey has been appointed to the position of senior geologist for the Regional Geology Section of the Geological Survey Division. Dr. Hinchey received her B.Sc. (Hons.) from Queen's University in 1999, an M.Sc. from Memorial University in 2001 and her PhD from Carleton University in 2005. She worked as a post doc with the GSC in 2005 before joining the NL Survey in 2006. She is also a registered Professional Geologist with the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists Newfoundland and Labrador. She has been a project geologist with the Geological Survey since 2006 and has worked in the Makkovik area of Labrador and more recently in the Long Range Mountains west of Sop's Arm. Currently, Dr. Hinchey is off on maternity leave with her two new tiny babies. It is anticipated she will return to the office in mid February 2012. Dr. Hinchey is also an adjunct faculty member with earth sciences.
