Dr. Pauline Duke, Discipline of Family Medicine, received the 2009 Primary Care Researcher Award. The presentation was made during the Primary Healthcare Partnership Forum, held Nov. 27-28 in St. John’s. Dr. Duke is the principal investigator in a recent grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research for a community-based intervention study that will compare the effectiveness of a self collection strategy for human papilloma virus as a means of screening for cervical cancer.

Dr. Jean Snook, Department of German and Russian, was awarded the inaugural Austrian Cultural Forum Translation Prize on Dec. 1 in New York City. The award honoured Dr. Snook’s translation of Gert Jonke’s Der ferne Klang, which will be published by Dalkey Archive Press in spring of 2010 as The Distant Sound.
