Several members of the Memorial community were appointed to the board of directors of the province’s Research and Development Corporation (RDC) on Aug. 25. They include: Dr. Ray Gosine, vice-president (research) pro tempore; Dr. Terry-Lynn Young, an associate professor (genetics) from the Faculty of Medicine; and Dr. Lawrence Cochrane, the executive director of mining and exploration of the Inco Innovation Centre. The RDC is the Crown entity for improving Newfoundland and Labrador’s research and development capacity.

Newfoundland and Labrador won a bronze medal in the Rowing Four (4-) Female event at the Canada Summer Games in Prince Edward Island last month, one of only six medals won by the province. All four members of the third-place team are students at Memorial – Jane Brodie, Alyssa Devereaux, Allison DeLong and Steph Davis. The four were also on the championship team at the Royal St. John’s Regatta in August.
