A fresh coat of paint

By Courtenay Alcock

Memorial University has launched a new and improved so that students, faculty and staff can receive relevant, personalized information at their fingertips.

Using a single login, now provides access to course and grade information, online resources at Memorial libraries, and distance education courses all in one place. A selection of web services, or “channels,” are also available for users to create their own personalized page. The channels range from university-provided services to external services, such as weather and newsfeeds.

“Everyone involved in this initiative has worked tirelessly to make these changes and ultimately improve the way Memorial offers its web services,” said Susan Cleyle, associate university librarian at Memorial’s QEII Library and chair of the Information Management Committee (IMC) Portal Subcommittee. “And I’d like to give a big thanks to those students and administrative units who provided input along the way. Not only will these improvements enhance the way students, faculty and staff get information online, it will allow for a more personalized experience for all users.”

Led by Computing and Communications, the project aims to improve the university’s online presence and enhance how students connect with Memorial.
Restructuring of the site is being implemented in phases, and will initially focus on students’ needs. However, original Memorial staff services on – such as payroll and vacation status records -- will remain on the updated site. For more information about the site, visit
