Power Bars
The practice of purchasing and installing power bars or extension cords throughout the University is actively discouraged for safety reasons as follows:

the likelihood of circuit overloading

the possibility of building electrical service overloading

using power bars and extension cords is unsuitable for a particular application

in many cases power bars and extension cords are used for applications for which additional outlets would be more appropriate.
If you still need to purchase a power bar, submit an SMA to the Work Control Centre who will determine if the intended use is appropriate. The maximum length of power bars used on Campus will be 6 feet, and they cannot be purchased on the Procurement Card.
