Call for Nominations 2019

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Memorial University Student Chapter (SSPE) is seeking nominations for positions in the executive committee:

  • Vice President (1)
  • Secretary (1)
  • Treasurer (1)
  • Membership Chairperson (1)
  • Communications and Webmaster Chairperson (1)
  • Officer-at-Large (4+) 

At least one Officer-at-Large will be elected from undergraduate students and at least one will be elected from graduate students to act as the student representatives. The SSPE Chapter constitution including the election procedure and description of the tasks and responsibilities for each position is attached. Nominations for these positions will be accepted from March 10th to April 1st, 2019. If you have any question about the positions, please email your concerns to sspe@mun.ca

Students running for these positions must be:

  • Full-time undergraduate or graduate students at Memorial University for the academic year 2019/2020
  • Be a current SPE member, which can be obtained for free at https://www.spe.org/join/

Successful nominees who meet the eligibility criteria and submit their complete applications by the deadline will be selected by the SSPE Faculty Advisor. Results will be announced by mid-April. Interested candidates are required to complete and sign the Executive Committee Nomination form and E-mail the scanned copy of the filled form with an up-to-date resume/CV to sspe@mun.ca AND Dr Lesley James to ljames@mun.ca by Monday, April 1st 2019.

Memorial University of Newfoundland SPE Student Chapter, known as Student Society of Petroleum Engineers (SSPE), has been established to be a valuable resource for students and the benefits of joining are numerous. SSPE has a mission to further Petroleum engineering knowledge amongst student members while enhancing the professional and social bond between students and the Oil and Gas industry. SSPE schedule a variety of events each year as part of students’ development, preparing them to be future petroleum engineers and bringing them closer to the petroleum industry. Main SSPE events during the last years have been the student paper contest (SPC), engineering quiz, essay writing contest, sports matches, industrial information sessions, photo contests, technical talks, and community involvements. As of March 2019, SSPE is the biggest SPE Student Chapter in Canada with more than 220 registered student members who are studying a variety of disciplines at Memorial University.
