A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed on Sept. 23, 2014 between the Faculty of Education at Memorial University and Université Sainte-Anne in Nova Scotia.
The agreement gives students completing the bachelor of education (primary/elementary) as a first degree, with the French Immersion option, the opportunity to complete their professional year in a French milieu. This is a requirement of the program for French Immersion students. This agreement will be in place for five years and will be revisited in 2019.
The signing ceremony took place at Université Sainte-Anne in Pointe-de-l’Eglise, Nova Scotia. Present for the signing were:
From Université Sainte-Anne: Mr. Allister Surette (President), Dr. Kenneth Deveau (Vice President) and Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Université Sainte-Anne /Memorial University Memorandum of Understanding, Ms. Andrea Burke-Saulnier.
Dr. Gerald Galway, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs and Ms. Camilla Stoodley, French Program Liaison Officer at the Faculty of Education, Memorial University, participated in the signing of the agreement.
This partnership is a renewal as there have been previous MOUs between the two parties since the year 2000. The Faculty of Education values its long standing relationship with the Université Sainte-Anne and has confidence in their ability to further prepare our students to become French Immersion teachers.
