I am a biogeochemist. My research group and I investigate the
biogeochemistry of both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.
Biogeochemistry is the study of the biological processes that
impact the geochemistry of the environment. Specifically, we are
interested in how different aspects of environmental change, such
as nutrient pollution and elevated CO2, impact the cycling of
organic matter and inorganic nutrients in ecosystems ranging from
mangrove estuaries to coniferous forests. Much of our work involves
the use of stable isotopes to track elements as they cycle through
the environment.

My family and I have recently moved to St. John’s this
fall. I am currently looking for motivated and talented graduate
students to work on a number of ongoing and upcoming research
projects such as our new investigations of the biogeochemistry of
boreal watersheds. Please feel free to contact me if you are
interested or have any questions.
