Inorganic Analysis
Flame Atomic Absorption (AA) Spectrometer
One of two atomic absorption spectrometers, the Varian SpectrAA-55 is a double beam instrument with built-in keyboard and display, automatic monochromator, and two cathode lamp positions. A wide selection of lamps are available. Detection limits range from 1 to 50 ppb depending on the metal.
Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometer
The graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometer is a Varian SpectrAA Zeeman equipped with Zeeman background correction and an auto-sampler. Four cathode lamps can be installed to allow for automated sequential analysis of 4 metals at one time. A good selection of lamps are available. Detection limits are in the sub-ppb range.
Electrochemical Workstation
The BAS 100B/W Electrochemical Workstation is a microprocessor-based electrochemical analyzer interfaced to a PC for instrument control and data storage and processing. A total of 38 electrochemical techniques (i.e., sweep, step, pulse, square wave, A.C. voltammetric, hydrodynamic and stripping techniques) can be performed. The analyzer comes with a cell stand, a controlled growth mercury electrode and some basic electrodes.
These instruments were purchased with financial support from The Canadian Foundation for Innovation.
