CCLAS functions with the approval
of the
Band Council of the Cree Nation of Chisasibi, and with in-kind
and financial support from the Cree School Board of Québec.
Anjabowa Childcare Centre in Chisasibi also provided CCLAS with
invaluable infrastructure support by allowing us to film some of
the children on their premises.
Chisasibi is the ideal community in which to locate a study of the acquisition of Cree as a first language. It is a predominantly Cree-speaking community, with Cree-speaking childcare facilities, as well as early child education programs delivered in Cree, through Cree Programs CLIP (Cree as a Language of Instruction Program). CCLAS is also greatly assisted by the fact that it operates in a community which is home to many Cree educators and language experts, whose years of experience and training constitute a valuable pool of knowledge.
