People and Organizations

The most important people involved in CCLAS are the families who generously agreed to participate in our research project; for the sake of their privacy, they must remain nameless here -- our thanks to them, as without them, there would be no CCLAS study. As well as the families, there have been the many people from the community of Chisasibi who have taken a keen interest in our project, who have attended our presentations and whose feedback has helped to shape the project. Our principal research partners have been the Cree School Board, and the Anjabowa Childcare Centre, where some of the video-recordings were made. We extend our thanks, in addition, to the community of Chisasibi for their support and interest in CCLAS.

The research team is comprised of four members of the Department of Linguistics at Memorial University (Julie Brittain (project director), Carrie Dyck, Yvan Rose and Marguerite MacKenzie). For the 2008 to 2012 funding period, three collaborative research partners are associated with CCLAS (Carrie Gillon, Arizona State University, Marie-Odile Junker, Carleton University, and Barbora Skarabela, The University of Edinburgh). In Chisasibi, all of our video-recording, project management, as well as some proportion of the data translation (from Cree into English) has been done by Ms. Darlene Bearskin. A number of undergraduate and graduate linguistics students at Memorial University have been and are currently involved with CCLAS. Thanks are also due to Alice Duff for her assistance with the translation of project materials, as well as to Elsie Duff for the same.
