FAQ For Computer Labs
Q: How do I
get an account to use the labs?
A: You can visit the
student assistant in CP-2005 (inside CP-2004) or at the Commons to
get an account. Please have your Campus Card with you.
Q: How much does it cost to print using
the laser printer in the labs?
A: The cost is 5 cents
a page for black and white printing.
Q: How do I pay for my
printing?
A: First, you must put money on your Campus
Card at the Library, in CP2004 or outside the Computer Science
General Office on the second floor of the Engineering Building.
Once the money is put on your card, return to the lab in CS-1019 or
CP-2003/4 and place your card in the card reader. Then transfer the
money you wish to use for printing to your printer account by
entering in that particular amount.
Q: I can't input any data into my SPSS
file, what do I need to do?
A: The SPSS file is
located on the S: drive, which is a read-only drive. Copy the file
to My Documents, which will enable you to read and write to it.
Q: How do I know the lab hours during
holidays, mid-term break or exam time?
A: The lab
hours are posted on our current lab schedule and are updated
throughout the semester to reflect various scheduling times.
Q: What are the rules in the
lab?
A: Rules and policies for the labs are posted
here.
Q: Can I retrieve my files from my
Morgan account in the CS labs?
A: Yes, simply log
into plato.ucs.mun.ca through the SSH program. Then, you can either
use WS-FTP to bring your file(s) over to your LabNet account or, as
mentioned above for Minitab assignments, you can print them off
directly in the CS labs.
