U.S Data Security Breach - Are you affected?
On December 25, 2011 the hacker group Anonymous gained access to client information for Strategic Forcasting Inc. (STRATFOR) – an Austin, Texas based global intelligence company specializing in corporate security. Shortly after the breach, personal and financial data (credit card data) for STRATFOR clients was posted publically on the internet.
On January 4, 2012, the Department of Computing and Communications was notified by the RCMP that a small number of Memorial University email accounts were listed amongst the data that was posted online. C&C has taken steps to communicate with the clients involved to insure the continued security of their email accounts and to make them aware of this breach.
While C&C has taken steps to protect Memorial's users and accounts, we have no way of knowing if Memorial University staff, faculty or students may have had dealings with STRATFOR and used personal email accounts or provided the company with credit card information. If you are a STRATFOR client and would like to check and see if your account information was posted publically by Anonymous, please go here:
If you shared your credit card information with STRATFOR please contact the financial institution that issued your card to check for any fraudulent activity.
Clients have questions or concerns about this notice are asked to contact the C&C Service Desk at 864-4595 of firstname.lastname@example.org.
