Unscheduled Major Network Service Disruption - Friday, October 2nd

On Friday, October 2nd, at 0950, a major electrical component in the Chemistry-Physics (CP) building failed. Although all major network equipment is protected by UPS power with generator backup, this specific failure resulted in loss of all electrical power to the UPS protecting the network. When UPS battery capacity ran out at approximately 1030, network services in CP, and network services in some buildings dependent on CP connectivity, failed.

Once regular electrical power was restored at 1305, network serviceswere restored by approximately 1315. Some wireless services took somewhat longer to restore to normal state.

Buildings with services affected include CP, Biotech, T12, Facilities Management, Music, Arts and Administration, and Paton College.

Although all network services were restored on Friday, Oct 2nd, thenetwork equipment in CP remains without generator backed electricalpower. We are working with Facilities Management on mitigation and planning.
