Implementation of regularly scheduled full system virus scans

In response to increased virus activity on campus the Department of Computing and Communications will be remotely configuring all computers running McAfee Virus Scan and ePO to perform a full system scan every Wednesday starting at 1:00 PM. This scan will be implemented in order to complement the current system of on-access scanning and will assist us in better recognizing the existence of potential virus threats. Full system scans are background processes designed so as not to affect the normal performance of the computer.

Clients are reminded that Memorial University's Electronic Data Security Policy requires all University-purchased Windows computers run approved anti-virus software, which for main campus St John's is McAfee VirusScan 8.7i plus ePO. Clients having any questions or concerns about approved anti-virus software are encouraged to review Memorial University’s Electronic Data Security Standards.

Clients who experience any problems with their computers as a result of this change, who require a McAfee anti-virus install/upgrade or who have any questions or concerns about virus infection are encouraged to contact the C&C Service Desk at 864-4595 or help@mun.ca.
