MUN Email - Unplanned Service Disruption on Monday, July 20th
The Memorial University main campus email service experienced an
unplanned service disruption on Monday, July 20th, at 4:30 PM until
July 21st 9:15 AM.
During a scheduled
service migration to new server hardware, one of four major email
servers developed an account database corruption. During the period
noted above, the campus email service would normally process
approximately 185,000 legitimate email messages. C&C estimates
that approximately 13,000 legitimate email messages were
erroneously rejected due to the technical failure. The senders of
the messages would have received responses similar to the sample
text included below, and would contain text like "No such user" or
"User unknown".
C&C regrets
this disruption in service and has taken steps to adjust testing
and service migration procedures.
