BUYERS BEWARE – Holiday Email Scam Valid
’Tis the season to BEWARE - Computing and Communications would like to advise clients that malware, spam and viruses are being distributed in new scams where e-mails purport to be holiday related.
In one recent e-mail scam, users get a .zip file attached to a message about an airline ticket and an ominous mention of a credit card balance. It appears to come from legitimate major airlines including Delta, JetBlue, Continental, American Airlines and Virgin America. The .zip attachment appears to contain a purchase invoice and flight ticket. AVOID OPENING ZIP FILE ATTACHMENT as it may infect your computer with harmful software.
This same sort of approach was recently used with fake UPS invoices.
We also continue to be the subject of “phishing attacks” which steal your account and use it to create spam. Please remember that Computing and Communications will never send you an e-mail asking for your Userid and password.
Have a Safe Computing Holiday from Computing and Communications!
