Travel
**Make sure to book your travel to St. John's, Newfoundland (YYT) not Saint John, New Brunswick (YSJ). **
Three major airlines fly to St. John's (YYT) from Canadian cities: Air Canada, Porter, and Westjet. If you are travelling from the States, United has a direct flight to St. John's from Newark (EWR). There is also a direct flight from London Heathrow.
Sample fares as of September 2012 (one way base fare / round trip including taxes and fees):
| Departure City | Air Canada | Porter | Westjet | |
| Halifax | $79 / $285.03 | $185 / $403.53 | $49 / $216.09 | |
| Montreal | $233 / $656.40 | $326 / $656.40 | $209 / $610.25 | |
| Toronto | $229 / $636.47 | $293 / $596.92 | $209 / $591.27 | |

| Vancouver | $389 / $992.88 | n/a | $369 / $948.08 |
You can also use sites like Yapta to help you find a lower fare.
From the airport, the best way to get to your hotel or campus is by taking a taxi. They queue up outside the arrivals door and will take you to the university area or most of downtown for a flat rate of $20-$30.
While in town, you can ride the Metrobus but the schedule and routes are erratic, especially on Sundays. It's easier to walk or cab around town.
Car rentals
If you are interested in renting a vehicle while you are in town, reserve as early as possible. There were points last summer when everything was booked.
Some companies you can try:
- Avis
- Budget
- Enterprise
- Hertz
- National
- Rent-a-Wreck / Practicar (off airport)
- Thrifty
People who have rented cars in town found Thrifty to be the most affordable, and had rental coverage on their own auto insurance or their credit card.
