2016: The Year of Pulses

2016 - The Year of Pulses!

Pulses are the dried seeds of beans, peas, lentils, fava bean and chickpeas. For many reasons, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization has chosen to celebrate this food, and declared 2016 the International Year of Pulses.

Cooking with pulses is easy, affordable, and a great source of health supporting nutrients. Growing pulses helps food security too, because farmers can eat and sell the crop, growing them can enrich soil, the residues are useful animal feed, and there are many varieties that can adapt to changing climate.
