Changes in Course Offerings for Fall 2009 and Winter 2010 Semesters
24 June 2009
Biochemistry Students should know about some changes in course offerings in the upcoming academic year that you will need to take into consideration when choosing your Biochemistry courses for both the Fall 2009 and Winter 2010 semesters.
The two changes are:
- Biochemistry 3202 (Community Nutrition) will not be offered this year, and probably not next year either
- Enrolment in Biochemistry 4002 will be capped
How will this affect you?
First, any student who has NOT taken Biochemistry 3202 and who needs it to complete their program will need to substitute an alternative. HereÕs how:
- If you are a major in Nutrition, have you already completed one of the following; Biochemistry 3107, 3108, 4002?
YES? take one more
course from this list:
Biochemistry 3107, 3108, 4002, 4101, 4103, 4104, 4200, 4201,
4230-4249.
NO? take two courses from this list: Biochemistry 3107, 3108, 4002, 4101, 4103, 4104, 4200, 4201, 4230-4249
- If you are an honours students in Nutrition, for your degree you will need to complete a total of FOUR courses (twelve credit hours) chosen from Biochemistry 3105, 3108, 4101, 4103, 4104, 4105, 4200, 4201, 4210, 4211, 4220, 4230-4249, Biology 3050.
- If you are a student in the Joint honours program in Nutrition/Behavioural Neuroscience, then you should take one of the following in place of 3202: Biochemistry 3105, 3108, 3402, 4101, 4103, 4104, 4105, 4200, 4201, 4210, 4211, 4220, 4230-4249, Biology 3050.
If you have any questions or this causes any program difficulties please contact us at bcadvice@mun.ca.
Second, because enrolment in Biochemistry 4002 will be capped, this means that you will need to choose your Biochemistry electives with this in mind. HereÕs a summary of the relevant sections of our degree regulations
Biochemistry majors: You must complete at least FOUR courses (12 credit hours) from Biochemistry 3200, 4002, 4101, 4103, 4104, 4200, 4201, 4230-4239.
Biochemistry honours: You must complete FOUR courses (12 credit hours) from Biochemistry 4002, 4101, 4103, 4104, 4200, 4201, 4230-4239.
Nutrition majors: You must complete ONE of 3107, 3108, 4002 (old regulations) OR TWO of Biochemistry 3107, 3108, 4002, 4101, 4103, 4104, 4200, 4201, 4230-4249.
Nutrition honours: Biochemistry 4002 is a required course; you will get a seat.
Joint honours: Nutrition
joint honours students will get a seat in the course.
Biochemistry joint honours students should consult the University
Calendar for the exact lists of alternatives that are
available.
In the Fall semester, Biochemistry 4002, 4101 and 4104 will be offered. In the Winter semester, 4200, 4201 and 4103 will be offered. We will also offer Biochemistry 4240 in the winter but with a limited enrolment.
If you cannot get into 4002 in the Fall then you must make sure that you complete your required Biochemistry electives to meet graduation requirements. You will not be permitted to graduate with 39 courses (117 credit hours).
