A key role for threonine metabolism in embryonic stem cells

(Journal Club; J Wang et al. Science 325: 435-439, 2009, and Cold Spring Hbr Symp Quant Biol 76: 183-193, 2011). Mouse embryonic stem cells have a unique dependence on threonine metabolism for both one-carbon and energy metabolism. These papers also provide insights into how metabolic research is carried out in the fast lane.
