Why Cognitive and Behavioural Ecology at Memorial?

The Cognitive and Behavioural Ecology Program (CABE) is an interdisciplinary graduate program focused on animal behaviour and behavioural ecology.

Thesis supervisors are drawn from the Departments of Psychology, Biology, the Ocean Sciences Centre (OSC) at the St. John's campus and the Environmental Science Division at Grenfell Campus. Adjunct Professors from the Canadian Forestry and Wildlife Services, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the Newfoundland and Labrador Wildlife and Forestry Divisions and Parks Canada also contribute to student supervision and teaching.

Description of programs

The Cognitive and Behavioural Ecology graduate program is an interdisciplinary program focused on animal behaviour and behavioural ecology. Some examples of ongoing research include predator-prey relationships of larval fishes, hormonal and genetic analysis of parental behaviour of seabirds, birds as environmental indicators, seabird feeding ecology, small mammal ecology, whale and seal behaviour, conservation biology and the social behaviour of wolves.

Minimum admission requirements

  • For MSc: Bachelor's degree (second class) in an appropriate area of study
  • For PhD: Master's degree in an appropriate area of study
  • All applicants are required to specify area of interest on application
