Nicky Tonkin

New Zealand to Newfoundland. It's literally half way around the world. Still, it was a move PhD student Nicky Tonkin was more than willing to make.

While she was researching universities, she was struck by the reputation Memorial's Earth Sciences department has across Canada. An opportunity to work with Dr. Duncan McIlroy was also too good to pass up.

Today she's settled into life at Memorial. Her research takes her to places like Utah and Argentina, while her life has changed as well. She's now married and expecting her second child.

She's expanding her professional interests and working towards becoming an Earth Sciences professor herself... maybe even teaching here. "It's a very easy place to settle into," she says.

Coming to Memorial. A life-changing move for Nicky Tonkin.
