Per Course Appointments
The Department of Archaeology invites applications from individuals interested in teaching the following undergraduate courses in Fall 2011.
Subject to budgetary restrictions and sufficient enrolments, appointments will be made on a course by course basis and will not entail any obligation to conduct research or to perform any administrative service for Memorial University. Appointments will be made in accordance with the provisions in the MUN-LUMUN Collective Agreement. Course design and evaluation methods for all courses will be in accordance with the Department of Archaeology regulations and the Memorial University Calendar.
Course Title: ARCH 2492-001
Course Schedule: Slot 05 (MWF 1200-1250)
Campus Location: St. John’s
Course Description: Forensic Archaeology is an examination of procedures and techniques used by Biological anthropologists and archaeologists to obtain data pertinent to investigations by law enforcement and medical authorities; evidence concerning the identification of human remains and the cause, time and manner of death. Note: This course may not be used for credit toward a major or minor in Archaeology.
Qualifications: An MA or equivalent in Bioarchaeology or a closely-related discipline; previous teaching experience at a post secondary level; and a demonstrated knowledge of the course concepts and material.
Course Title: ARCH 3686-001
Course Schedule: Slot 04 (MWF 1100-1150)
Campus Location: St. John’s
Course Description: Archaeology and Photography (Special Topics Course) explores emerging research on historical photography, its origins and progression, its artistic and scientific evolution, its material culture, and its vast influence on our world, and particularly on archaeology. Photography is used to acquire archaeological information, record data, analyze and interpret discoveries, and illustrate and communicate ideas. Its practical and historical repercussions within archaeological research are undeniable. Photography has discernible cultural, social, economic, aesthetic, technological and scientific implications within archaeology and throughout academic research in general.
Qualifications: A MA or equivalent in Archaeology; a minimum of 5 years professional photography experience is required; and previous teaching experience at a post secondary level.
Course Title: ARCH/Folk/Geog 4015-001
Course Schedule: Slot 09 (MWF 400-450/Lecture; Slot 52 (T 1200-300/Lab)
Campus Location: St. John’s
Course Description: Cultural Resource Management (same as Folklore 4015 and Geography 4015) is a study of cultural resource management: the definition and recognition of cultural resources, the application of policy in managing cultural resources, and the identification and consideration of contemporary issues in cultural resource management. Three hours of lecture and three hours of seminar/lab per week.
