Welcome from OSC

Dr. Ian Fleming
Director, Ocean Sciences Centre (OSC)
We welcome those interested in Aquatic Animal Health to the Ocean
Sciences Centre. The OSC is recognized internationally for its
cold-water research programmes in marine ecology, physiology and
molecular biology, biological and chemical oceanography, and
aquaculture. It houses extensive, first-rate facilities for rearing
aquatic organisms and analytical laboratories for conducting
cutting-edge science, including the Aquaculture Research and
Development Facility which is designed to support research,
training, pre-commercial production, and small-scale commercial
trials on species for marine aquaculture.
The OSC is a highly productive academic unit within the Faculty of
Science at Memorial University of Newfoundland that is composed of
12 core faculty, three Emeritus Professors, 15 cross/adjunct
appointees, 8 postdoctoral fellows, 27 staff and over 50 graduate
students. The location of the OSC at the head of Logy Bay provides
researchers and students locally, nationally or internationally
with access to the flora and fauna of the northwestern Atlantic
Ocean and is uniquely suited for shore-based studies of cold ocean
processes and sub-arctic organisms.
