Call for Proposals

The Association of Atlantic Universities Teaching Showcase brings together faculty members, instructors, graduate teaching assistants, and others who work to ensure excellence in teaching practice at universities in the Atlantic Region. It provides a forum to reflect on teaching practice, discuss issues related to university teaching and learning, and share teaching strategies. With this purpose in mind, the 2006 Teaching Showcase Committee invites proposals for sessions on issues, programs, methodologies, or techniques related to the conference theme.

Session Description

All showcase sessions are 50 minutes and are intended to be interactive – fully involving the participants in some exercise or activity and providing opportunity for discussion. The use of audio visual equipment in the conduct of sessions can be accommodated if requested upon submission of a proposal.

Session Themes

The Showcase schedule is organized according to the following seven themes:

  1. Teaching Technologies: From Science Fiction to Reality – strategies and best practices for teaching with technology
  2. Shifting Stories: The Impact of Internationalization – ideas and experiences in integrating culturally diverse student populations and for internationalizing the curriculum for both international and local students
  3. Upcoming Editions of the Teaching Story: Professional Development of Graduate Teaching Assistants – descriptions of programs and activities that help prepare graduate students to become involved in teaching or teaching-related activities
  4. From Vision to Voice: Stories of Innovative Practice in Teaching – accounts of programs and faculty development practices designed to have an impact on the culture of teaching in universities
  5. Merging Authorship: The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning – reports about merging teaching and research by applying academic research processes to validate teaching practice
  6. Fact vs. Fiction: Who are our Learners? – insights into the changing demographics of our student population and the resultant implications for teaching
  7. Anthology – sessions on teaching and learning that do not fit into one of the six identified categories. In this session, both traditional and non-traditional approaches to the structure and delivery of sessions are welcomed. Creativity and uniqueness are encouraged.
