Commissioners studying the reporting structure of Memorial University's western Newfoundland campus, Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, recommended changes in the way the college is governed when they released their report in August. University and college officials immediately began to sift through the 17-page report to see how best to implement some of the commissioners' proposed changes.
Memorial University alumni elected five new people in August to the Board of Regents, the university's governing body. Ruth Canning, Deanne Fleet, Ann Marie Hann, Doug Moores and Eleanor Swanson were elected for three-year terms. Meanwhile, Earl Ludlow was returned for a second term. Almost 2,000 alumni cast their votes for a record 28 alumni candidates.
