At Memorial to receive honorary degree during spring convocation, noted tenor Ben Heppner and choral musician Sir David Willcocks took time to offer a masterclass and a choral clinic at the School of Music. Here, Meg Herder, third-year voice performance major at Memorial's School of Music, gets some friendly pointers from Dr. Heppner. The school's director, Dr. Tom Gordon, said the experience was invaluable. “The opportunity to work with artists of the stature of Ben Heppner and Sir David Willcocks is a phenomenal stimulus to musicians in our community and validates the level of musicianship among our students,” he said. Student, Kellie Walsh said, “The bonus beyond is that both Ben and Sir David are ideal mentors: wise, warm and encouraging.”
