TAUMUN Executive Board 2021-22

President: Sudipta Chakraborty

Sudipta Chakraborty is a graduate research assistant and Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Civil Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He is working in the Geotechnical Engineering research group, exploring the behavior of soil-pipeline interaction for polyethylene pipes during relative ground movements. Sudipta has completed his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). At Memorial University, Sudipta was the Senate Representative of the Graduate Students’ Union (GSU) and represented the graduate students in the university’s Senate meeting. He has been working as a member of the GSU’s Constitutional, Academic, Finance, and Social Events Committees since 2019. Previously, he volunteered as the Secretary of the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE – MUN Student Chapter) and as an Event Coordinator of the Engineering Graduate Students’ Society (EGSS) in the 2019-2020 term. Sudipta has received the Silver Award from the Student Volunteer Bureau (SVB) of Memorial University in August 2021. He was also recognized as the “GSU Graduate student of the week” in January 2021. Recently, he has been elected as the President of the Teaching Assistants’ Union of Memorial University of Newfoundland (TAUMUN).

 

Vice President: Piash Saha

Piash Saha is pursuing M.Engg in Civil Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN). His research is to model large-scale landslides in sensitive clays. He has recently been elected as the Vice President of the Teaching Assistants' Union of the Memorial University of Newfoundland at the AGM held for the 2021-22 session. Before this, he was serving as the Interim Director of Social Affairs at the TAUMUN. He has been active in volunteering since the beginning of his program at MUN. He worked as a Board of Directors (BoD) member at the Graduate Students’ Union (GSU), volunteered as vice president at the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) MUN Student Chapter, and Civil Engineering Representative at the Engineering Graduate Students' Society (EGSS). He was awarded the bronze and silver awards by the Student Volunteer Bureau this year for his volunteering efforts.

Secretary: Md. Shaheen Shah

Md. Shaheen Shah is currently serving as the Secretary of the Teaching Assistants' Union of Memorial University of Newfoundland (TAUMUN). He is a Petroleum Engineer by background and has interests in the advancement of world natural resources through teaching, research, and industrial collaboration. He is presently pursuing his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at MUN. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum and Mining Engineering at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST), Bangladesh and Master of Engineering degree in Oil and Gas Engineering at MUN. Shah has rewarded with various awards and honors during his undergraduate and post-graduate study period, such as Dean Medal for excellent academic performance in B.Sc., Excellent Teaching Assistantship certificate in MUN, etc. He is also serving as the Secretary of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) at MUN Chapter. His research area includes a wide range of oil and gas engineering; safety, risk, and reliability engineering; energy and environment

 

Treasurer: Towhidul Islam

Towhidul Islam is pursuing Master of Engineering in pavement engineering at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). After graduation, he served as a lecturer in civil engineering at Port City International University, Bangladesh. In his Master’s, he has been working on the development of asphalt mixture for the City of St. John’s: A Memorial University - City of St. John’s joint study. He has impressive experiences in volunteering and social works for the Engineering Graduate Students' Society (EGSS) and the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) at MUN since 2019.He has been the Treasurer of TAUMUN since 2020.

Director of Members’ Welfare: Shahrul Ibney Feroz

Shahrul Ibney Feroz is an M.Eng. student in Civil Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN). He completed his bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET). After completing his B.Sc., he joined as a lecturer at Bangladesh Army International University of Science and Technology (BAIUST) and served there for almost three years. He was also connected with Bangladesh Physics Olympiad (BDPhO) and International Astronomy and Astro-Physics Olympiad. His research interest is Pavement Engineering, and currently doing a project with the City of St. John’s to develop an asphalt mixture suitable for St John’s weather. Besides, he engaged himself in several volunteering activities. He is serving as a member of the Social Event Committee of GSU (Graduate student society) MUN. He is the Faculty Council Representative of Engineering Graduate Students Society (EGSS) for the 2021-22 session. He has recently been elected as the Director of Member’s Welfare of TAUMUN at the AGM held for the 2021-22 session.
