Discipline of Radiology
Message from the Chair
It is my pleasure as Chair to welcome you to the website of the Discipline of Radiology, Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Our faculty in the discipline provide the full clinical scope of general and subspecialty imaging. As a result, our residents benefit from a complete educational experience satisfying Royal College requirements. Because of the smaller size of our program, there is close interaction between the faculty and residents. Our residents thus experience a higher volume of procedural cases as we do not currently have any fellowship positions.
We also offer extensive program for undergraduate learners. We have an impressive output of research and scholarly activity, despite a busy clinical service. Our residency program takes place mainly in St. John’s at the General Hospital, St. Clare’s Hospital and Janeway Hospital sites. We also have an excellent community rotation in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, and there are further elective opportunities that can be availed of by our residents.
We offer training on all modalities of Medical Imaging. Our new Molecular Imaging Facility houses a state-of-the-art PET/CT scanner and its own Cyclotron. We are in the process of updating our interventional suites. We have embarked on a resident well-being program.
Our trainees are working throughout the Province and across the country. They are very well regarded by their clinical colleagues and many are in leadership positions.
Our Discipline is welcoming, respectful and inclusive - a real family atmosphere where out Faculty, Staff and Residents work as a team!
Dr. Jeff Flemming MD, FRCPC
